Latinx Hispanic Educators Alliance of Durham
About Us.
The Latinx Hispanic Educators Alliance of Durham (LHEAD) started in 2024. We are a collective of educators, staff, students, and families committed to equity, cultural celebration, and community care.
We exist to amplify Latinx/Hispanic voices, honour identity, and build spaces of joy, belonging, and representation within the Durham District School Board and beyond.
Our Pillars
1
Support & Network Building
We bring together Latinx/Hispanic educators, school staff, and allies to create a strong, supportive community. Through mentorship, connection, and leadership development, we build spaces where members feel seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.
2
Community Engagement & Advocacy
We partner with families, students, and local organizations to advocate for equity, representation, and culturally responsive practices. Together, we amplify Latinx/Hispanic voices and push for systems that reflect and honour our communities.
3
Cultural Appreciation & Awareness
We celebrate the rich diversity of Latinx/Hispanic cultures through events, storytelling, and curriculum. By centring joy, language, and identity, we foster belonging and pride in every classroom and school.
